Does every worn floor need a full refinish?
No. HQ works in four levels — Revive (professional deep cleaning), Recoat (a new protective finish coat when the existing floor is suitable), Refinish (complete surface renewal), and Restore (preservation-focused work for historic and reclaimed floors). An honest assessment first means you only get the level your floor actually needs.
Is sanding as dusty as people say?
Traditional sanding is. HQ uses Bona DCS 2.0 dust containment, which captures sanding dust at the source for a dramatically cleaner experience than traditional sanding, while precision equipment prepares the floor for a consistent professional finish.
What products and finishes do you use?
HQ is a Bona Certified Craftsman and works with Bona professional systems: DCS 2.0 dust containment, Power Drive sanding, Bona sealers and finishes, Bona Chroma and DriFast stains, and the Quantum R851 adhesive. Bona Chroma, Bona's waterborne sealers and finishes, and Bona adhesives are GREENGUARD GOLD certified for low chemical emissions.
Can you work on historic or reclaimed wood floors?
Historic and reclaimed hardwood is an HQ specialty. Old wood asks for judgment, not a formula: HQ evaluates board condition, repair needs, matching options, and the least aggressive appropriate path before any work begins.
Can you repair just a few damaged boards?
Yes. Selective repair and thoughtful board matching can often preserve more of an original floor — targeted repairs for damaged boards, gaps, stains, and transitions are one of HQ's core services.
Do you refinish stairs and railings?
Yes. Stair work requires careful detail, color coordination, and a finish system suited to demanding daily use — HQ treats stairs and railings as craft work of their own.
